In the recent episode, Saumya Mishra from Bhopal came with an interesting and entertaining pitch for Shark Tank India 3. In an exclusive conversation with ETimes TV, the entrepreneur got candid about what happened in the episode and more. The Beauty care brand pitcher said, "Honestly, I didn't imagine that the episode would go the way it went. Everything was free-flowing, there were no cuts so all that you go into the tank is with your pitch and they help you rehearse a little bit when they ask you to display your app, you should touch on your important points and be familiar with the numbers. So when I entered the tank, it all started on a high note, they liked my pitch but not all of that was shown. A lot got edited out while giving the pitch, I thought I was nailing it. My sales and the numbers were very good so I was confident."
The young entrepreneur went on to express, "The turning point in our journey occurred when comparisons began, particularly with established companies like VLCC and Urban Company. Our company ethos revolves around disrupting the current market, dominated by major players inaccessible to the common people. Innovation in treatment is a key focus, as India lags at least 5 years behind leading aesthetic markets like the US and South Korea. Misunderstandings arose, such as the use of the term 'ladki' by Peyush, which was misinterpreted from my original statement about trained therapists."
She further said, "Unfortunately, this was seized upon as a tactic to manipulate public perception. My intention was to emphasize the vast market potential, including those not familiar with Western culture or English. However, these nuances were selectively highlighted, leading to a distorted image of my character. The concern wasn't just about the business but the potential harm to my personal reputation, causing a breakdown at the thought of being portrayed as someone I am not on Shark Tank. My initial goal was to share a positive story of innovation, but it devolved into a misrepresentation of my character."
